Why We Have Paid Content

“Because I know what it feels like to start from scratch.”

I’ve spent months, weeks, and countless hours researching, writing, and creating every checklist, guide, and resource on this site — all with one goal: to make your move to New Zealand smoother and less stressful.

When I first arrived, I was lucky to have family here — but even then, it was still overwhelming trying to figure everything out. I know that for many newcomers, it’s even harder. You might be arriving without support, without family nearby, and without anyone to tell you where to start or where to go for help.

That’s why I built this website: to give you one trusted place to find clear, practical, and real guidance — the kind I wish existed when I was trying to piece it all together.

Your small membership fee helps me keep the guides updated as laws change, add new templates and checklists, and continue building a community that supports others just like you.

For only $25/year, you’re not just joining a membership — you’re helping make the journey easier for the next person starting fresh.

Mel’s Note:

This isn’t just a one-time checklist — it’s a resource you can come back to, from planning your move to applying for citizenship (and beyond).

About Me

In May 2018, at 23 years old, I made a decision for my future, I packed a suitcase and left behind my mom, gran, brother, friends, family, culture — everything I knew — to start a new life in New Zealand. My dad, my youngest brother and his partner had moved about a year earlier, so they were only slightly ahead of me in figuring things out. I stayed with them for three days before being sent off to live with other South Africans — kind of like a boarding house, but for fresh Saffas finding their feet…
